Wonderful magic time.
MAGIC HOUSE is a new kind of café where food, art, music, design, fashion, and creativity of all genres comes together in one space.
Bringing together a community of experts referred to as Magicians—chefs, artists, musicians, designers, and craftspeople from across Japan and abroad—the space was made to engage and nurture all five senses. Los Angeles-based artist, designer, and producer Darren Romanelli is in charge of creative direction.
MAGIC HOUSE is a product of passion, teamwork, and creative collaboration across every realm of aesthetics.
The café menu features a curated selection of coffees freshly roasted in-house, delicate desserts by pastry chef Akane Kameya, and artisan breads from celebrated local bakery Cupido, a five-time Tabelog Bread Tokyo Top 100 honoree.
For those with a bigger appetite, the food menu offers simple Western-inspired dishes with a refined Tokyo sensibility, including hamburgers, pizzas, and open-faced sandwiches.
Contemporary art forms a core competent of the cafe, and rotating art installations feature museum-worthy works by Richard Prince, Jonas Wood, Peter Saul, Masaomi Yasunaga, and more.
A series of one-of-one chairs by Darren Romanelli, made of reconstructed vintage textiles, provide a comfortable lounging area that looks out over a tree-lined promenade,
while a permanent site-specific mural and installation by Barry McGee, as well as a striking Tom Sachs installation of 100 of his signature “chawans” (tea cups), makes the cafe a worthy art destination in itself.
Staff uniforms and store merchandise are created by NEIGHBORHOOD, while the outdoor deck and botanical elements are curated by Takashi Kobayashi, Japan’s most renowned treehouse builder.
Additional features include a dog-friendly area and flexible seating designed for contemplation or conversation.
Located at Colline Bajikoen in Setagaya, adjacent to the Tokyo University of Agriculture, the Food and Agriculture Museum, and the Tokyo Equestrian Park,
